Birding
Bird-watching starts in the grounds of Kerio View. Even as you take your breakfast or lunch, you
look through the large glass windows at the finches and weavers feeding at the bird-table, the
swifts and swallows skimming, swerving and diving through the air in search of insects and the
buzzards and ravens contesting for supremacy in the sky above the escarpment. Over 70 species of
birds have been identified here already, and the list is added to almost every day. See the "Smaller
Birds" and "Larger Birds" pages of our "
Animal Guide".
The management has a particular interest in promoting ornithology in the area and will do
whatever possible to show birders areas of interest, such as the river and lakes of the Kerio Valley.

Activities
Biking
The Kerio Valley and its surrounding areas are ideal for cycling, whether for
high-altitude training or for mountain-biking.
Those wanting only moderate exercise can choose routes on the highlands
plateau on a mixture of tarmac and red laterite roads. If they follow the
escarpment edge they will be rewarded with spectacular views down into the
valley and across to the mountains on the other side.
For those for whom cycling is a more serious business, there is no shortage of
challenges. The valley escarpments and the hills rising above the plateau offer very
steep climbs and descents.
Serious mountain-biking trips into the Cherangani Hills or up
Mt. Elgon
(See "Safaris" page) are possible but need careful advance planning so that food
and other essentials are provided for.
A limited number of mountain bikes are available for hire at Kerio View.
Paragliding
  Kerio View has gsm coordinates: N 00 39 307    E  035 30 664 and an altitude of about 2360m.
Within a short distance of Kerio View there a number of take-off points overlooking the valley
escarpment. The most appropriate can be selected according the prevailing wind direction and
conditions. Landing sites may be on the lower "shelf" 400 m below or right down in the valley
1000m below.
The local people are friendly and generally do not disturb or object to the activities of our
paragliding visitors. However, KV staff are always available to assist in liaising with people of the
area and arranging for vehicles to pick up paragliders and their equipment.
