KERIO VIEW
Teren Bridge

This is a fine steel bridge linking Arror in Marakwet district to Kinyach in
Baringo district and one of only three major crossing points of the River
Kerio.
As at the Chebloch Gorge, so at Teren, the river is forced to cut down
through solid rock. In this task the Kerio is assisted by the supplementary
power of the Arror, one of the major rivers arising in the Cherangany
Hills.
In the rainy season the river in spate can be truly spectacular and it
carries boulders and tree trunks with no difficulty. The trees crash into
the piers of the bridge sending reverberations through the entire structure
--- which explains why it is already beginning to be a bit rickety.
The stones and boulders get trapped in crevices in the basalt blocks and
are forced to grind out circular "swirl holes" and pits. The swirl hole
architecture can be quite surreal in certain angles of sunlight or moonlight.
In this place in the Kerio Valley river and road and human population
come into close proximity ---- consequently it is always a danger point
for the Kerio elephants when they are on their travels.
Fishing yields catfish, barbus and a species with a peculiar-shaped head.
